The stock is sold in its Yardley and Tamworth store, and its Cannock superstore too as well as online. The Newlife online site launched at the beginning of the year in response to the Covid crisis which temporarily closed the charity’s nine stores and pop-up shops across the country during lockdown. As with the Newlife stores and pop-up shops, profits from the online site are used to provide vital equipment and support for disabled and terminally ill children across the UK. Also involved are Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Barnardo’s, Spurgeon’s children’s charity, the Springfield project in Sparkhill, St Paul’s Community Development Trust and Your Local Pantry, which runs food hubs in 12 locations across Birmingham and the Black Country. You can buy a gift from the #Brumwish Amazon Wishlist here. Retailers ready for record Black Friday/Cyber Monday haul – AFR

The sales blitz is expected to provide a boost to retailers, from brick and mortar shops that struggled through the pandemic to the country’s largest retailers and online shopping businesses. Geoff Ikin, the chief customer officer at department store chain Myer, said the group was on the front foot both online and at the bricks and mortar outlets, with Early Bird offers of 50 to 70 per cent off normal prices. “There’s no doubt the Black Friday sales are getting bigger and better each year,” Mr Ikin said. “Last year we had record-breaking hourly sales, and we expect to set new records this year.” Allyce McVicar, the store manager for Myer Melbourne, said some of the offers represented the largest discounts of the year in many categories. “We have decided to reward our customers who are keen to get their shopping done early,” she said. Some customers use Black Friday to ensure a fast start to Christmas shopping. Gerry Harvey, the chairman of Harvey Norman, said there was an air of optimism in the post-lockdown environment being fuelled by the large savings pool among households who have not been able to travel overseas. “Consumers are out there spending up,” the retail veteran of 60 years said. While Black Friday had its genesis online, he said shoppers were increasingly wanting to go out to bricks and mortar stores. “We’re getting very, very busy.” Mr Harvey said there was a large amount of pent-up demand that augurs well for the next few weeks of trading.

Proactive Cybersecurity For SMBs On Cyber Monday And Beyond – Forbes

Source: www.google.com/url?rct=j&sa=t&url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2021/11/24/proactive-cybersecurity-for-smbs-on-cyber-monday-and-beyond/&ct=ga&cd=CAIyHDc3NjdiZTA5YzNjZDhjODc6Y28udWs6ZW46R0I&usg=AFQjCNFQjM89g6YrsLgQxQN1Se7gX3CNOA

Nadav is the co-founder and CEO of CYREBRO.  Small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) stand to profit from increased sales on Cyber Monday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year. But those additional customers can also make lucrative targets for hackers. We generally look toward milestones to recognize events, such as data breaches that have occurred on past Cyber Mondays. Cyber Monday has surpassed Black Friday as the busiest shopping day of the year, and the best deals can be found online rather than in-store. It’s no wonder that consumers have flocked to the web for their holiday shopping, in spite of previous compromises such as the malicious cyberattack on global IT provider Kaseya that affected up to as many as 1,500 businesses all over the world and last year’s concerted efforts on Cyber Monday to skim credit cards by a criminal gang called Magecart group. Small, or non-existent, security teams are tasked with defending SMBs from the full range of cyberthreats while managing an increasingly distributed workforce and complex digital infrastructure. Fortunately, there are straightforward steps that SMBs can take to be more proactive in preventing attacks through the right combination of human intelligence and security services.  Don’t wait until a major event occurs to embrace better security practices. The C-level of any size organization must endorse and mandate a strategy — whether a formal program or following generally accepted industry guidelines. Security can’t be an afterthought in response to data breaches, and SMBs must manage risks by implementing controls to ensure that comprehensive security is upheld every single day of the year. There are many types of controls — and security is a spectrum and continues indefinitely — so it’s important to use time and resources to emphasize the strategies that deliver the maximum impact. User awareness is crucial. There are a few administrative and technical controls that fit this criteria, especially: • Employee training and education. Your employees can either be your greatest asset or your greatest liability, and attackers know this. Nearly 95% of attacks targeting organizations originate via email, which underscores why having employees who are security-minded is so significant. • Response mitigation via a Security Operations Center (SOC). A SOC provides continuous monitoring into what’s happening underneath the covers where attackers may be lurking.  There are many excellent choices for managed security awareness training programs that incorporate education and simulations to practice those lessons. Those programs emphasize common threats and solutions, such as recognizing and correctly reacting to phishing and related scams through calls and text, safeguarding personal information, not trusting unknown portable media, using strong passwords and authentication, and working remotely safely. Security isn’t just about “things;” it’s the process of what we do to stay safe. Know your threats. The key takeaways from the programs mentioned above should include: • Think before you click. Whenever in doubt, contact the sender through a different medium. Attackers will use social engineering and pressure to prompt your team to make small, but critical, mistakes. Sometimes, a click is all it takes to introduce a serious problem. Attackers also spearphish executives, so nobody should be exempt from awareness training. • Policies to safeguard personal information. The organization must create ways to implement the appropriate permissions to your systems, data classification and screen guards. Keep in mind that there can be legal and civil penalties for failure to safeguard personal information. • Physical hardware access. This is becoming another significant attack vector. Your team members should never insert USB drives or unknown devices into their PCs. Rogue hardware is a growing threat, and attackers are spending significant time finding new ways to get “behind the firewall,” even simple lower tech approaches. • Never reuse passwords. Start using passphrases that are easy to remember but provide stronger authentication. Every employee should also train for and be comfortable with using MFA, where a second authentication factor is used, such as a text or call to confirm their identity.
